CJE Ann Melton asks everyone to mail in census forms early

To all citizens of Adair County, KY

Households in Adair County should have received their 2010 Census in the mail, I would like to encourage each resident to take the time, approximately 10 minutes, to fill out the Census and mail it back in.

I would like to challenge the residents to respond at a higher rate than they did during the 2000 Census.

Please take the time to fill out your 10 minute Census, this could help Adair County tremendously/

Thanks.

-Ann

Why the 2010 is so important:Why is the U.S. Census Count necessary
  • To determine representation in the U.S. House of Representatives
  • This data helps determine how more than $400 billion is distributed throughout the state.
  • Title 1 allocations.
  • College grant and loan programs
  • Public transportation
  • Road and community improvements
  • Public health services and hospitals
  • Neighborhood improvements
  • Senior services
How is the 2010 Census taken?

  • Questionnaire mail
  • Confidentiality bound census workers travel door-to-door
Why are some people reluctant to be counted?
  • Privacy: Some people are reluctant to give the government personal information
  • Confidentiality: Some people worry that the information they provide could be used against them. However, census information is completely confidential. It is never shared with other government agencies, including the IRS, any office of immigration, or the FBI. Sharing the census data is a federal offense.
  • Immigration and citizenship concerns: People may not want to draw attention to themselves. However, every person in every home should be counted as part of the census
