Four and one-half year old Abby supports Baby So Soft

Four and one-half year old Abby on being told of Baby So Soft campaign and remembering her own soft, sweet blanket she brought home from Kosair, joined the effort. 'Ahh, Mommy, we have to send those babies some soft blankies.' She and her Mom encourage others to do the same.
About: Baby So Soft campaign will help Kosair newborns

My daughter, Abby, was born on June 17, 2005 at T.J. Sampson in Glasgow.

She had to be flown to Kosair just 16 hours after she was born.

The first day she arrived there, someone at Kosair placed a tiny hand made afghan over her. It was so soft and sweet.

In and out of each of her surgeries and tests, this small blanket followed her when I couldn't. It became a comfort to me, as well as to Abby. They sent the blanket home with us and Abby slept with it every night until she was about two years old. It is a special item that I will keep forever. It reminds me of her beginning struggles, but also of comfort and the kindness of strangers.

There were several babies in the NICU who had no visitors in our ten day stay. It is a heart breaking place and I will gladly send any comfort that I can to the families and babies there.

After telling Abby, who is now a very healthy 4 1/2 year old, about the blanket drive, she said, "Ahh, Mommy, we have to send those babies some soft blankies."

So that's exactly what we will do, and I encourage others to do the same!

Thanks to all who have organized this!

s/Shevawn Richards
