Obituary: Virginia Nell Yates, 81, longtime Columbia, KY resident

She was a longtime Bank of Columbia employee and was a former resident of Columbia, KY
Virginia Nell Yates, 81, died Monday morning at Bethany Nursing Center of Vidalia, GA.

Funeral services for Mrs. Virginia Nell Yates will be held Wednesday January 27, 2010 11amET/10amCT, from the chapel of Murchison Funeral Home, 207 East Second ST, Vidalia, GA, with Reverend Chris Sheffield officiating. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Tuesday, January 26, 2010, from 6pm to 8pmCT. Interment will follow at a later date at Haven Hill Cemetery, 1276 Liberty RD, Columbia KY.



The Kentucky native lived in Vidalia for the past twelve years, where she was a member of the Smith Street Baptist Church and was an avid bird watcher. She was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Charles Yates, who died April 27, 1987. She was a longtime Bank of Columbia (KY) employee and a former resident of Columbia, KY. Survivors include the following:
  • Her daughter and son in law: Lynn (Gerald) Lewis of Vidalia, GA

  • Son and daughter in law: Charles (Lynn) Yates of Tallahassee, FL.

  • One sister and brother in law: Patricia (Dave) Cohn of Palm Harbor,FL

  • One granddaughter: Jodie (Greg) Williams

  • One great granddaughter: Abby Williams all of Covington, GA

  • Several nieces and nephews
Memorials may be made to the Smith Street Baptist Church at 503 Smith Street, Vidalia, Ga. 30474.
