Blue Jays missing from Sycamore Springs may be at Joppa, KY

There's lots of Blue Jays, dining on scrumptious food on Combest Drive. killdeer, goldfinches, red headed and downey woodpeckers, and several titmice come to visit. Recipe for suet ball below. Writer is getting ready for Great Backyard Bird Count, February 12-15, 2010
About:

By Maury Lewis

A lot of the Blue Jays are on my property. Every morning there are a lot of them eating off of a large flat rock in my front yard, my husband says there are at least twenty eating. They are hard to count because they fly in and out so fast. I feed them whole peanuts, sunflower seeds, sunflower hearts, cracked corn and whole corn kernels.

We have seen a Killdeer (don't know if that is spelled right) twice or two different ones coming into our drive way off of Combest Drive the past two days.

The Gold Finches have also come into the feeders today so I will have to go to Day and Day and purchase some Niger seed tomorrow.

I made up something like a Suet ball, but I made it from ground up stale Cheerios (regular not frosted), chunky peanut butter, bird seed and cracked corn and put in an onion bag and hung it on the shepherd hook beside my birdfeeder and it was eaten by a beautiful Red Headed Woodpecker and a Downey Woodpecker, and several Titmice.

Can you tell why I look forward to the GBBC Great Backyard Bird Count except my birds are in my front yard.
