416 Jobs saved at Curtis Maruyasu America in Lebanon, KY Investment made possible by expanded incentive program passed during 2009 special legislative session. The Curtis Maruyasu plant is located 37.4 miles from the Adair County Courthouse, 500 Public Square, Columbia, KY. Company also has plants in Santa Claus, IN, and San Antonio, TX -CM From Gov. Steve Beshear's Communications office FRANKFORT, KY - Gov. Steve Beshear today visited Curtis Maruyasu (MARY'-oss) America, an automotive industry supplier, in Lebanon, Marion Co., KY, to announce that jobs for 416 Kentucky families will be saved because of the state's efforts to retain Kentucky's existing industry. Curtis Maruyasu America will retool its Marion County facility, investing nearly $11 million and preserving 416 jobs. "For more than 20 years, Curtis Maruyasu America has been one of the premier employers in Marion County, and we are very excited Gov. Beshear was able to be a major factor in helping them retain their existing employees," said Marion County Judge Executive John G. Mattingly. "The city of Lebanon has enjoyed a close working relationship with Curtis Maruyasu America, and we look forward to their continued growth, new job opportunities and retention of their existing labor force," added Lebanon Mayor Gary Crenshaw. The investment was made possible by state incentives passed under Gov. Beshear's Incentives for a New Kentucky, HB 3, sponsored by Rep. Tommy Thompson, of Owensboro, and passed by the Kentucky General Assembly during the 2009 special legislative session. "Helping our existing industries in these difficult economic times is exactly what my economic development incentive legislation was intended to do," said Gov. Beshear. "I commend the Kentucky General Assembly for getting the package passed and giving state government the tools it needs to keep the Commonwealth's manufacturing base strong and competitive. Our efforts in Frankfort are already paying off for hard-working Kentuckians." Built in 1988, the Curtis Maruyasu America plant is in good condition, but economic conditions have made it necessary to integrate products and services into the facility that are currently purchased from outside suppliers. The equipment needed to revitalize Curtis Maruyasu America is costly and without assistance of state incentives, the company would have to consider curtailing operations. "We are excited about the prospect of working hand in hand with our state and local government to achieve the common goal of retaining valued jobs locally, thus benefitting hundreds of families in the area, especially in these economically challenging times," said Douglas S. Vyverberg, president of Curtis Maruyasu America, Inc. "We want to take this opportunity to thank Gov. Beshear and his staff for making this valued support program available to Kentucky industries such as Curtis Maruyasu America and working in a cooperative spirit to achieve this mutual objective." Curtis Maruyasu America is a fabricator of fluid and gas control products and technology for the automotive industry. Products include motor vehicle fuel and brake systems, engine parts and breather elements, and are manufactured from low carbon, aluminum, stainless steel and multi-layer nylon tubing. The Kentucky Economic Development Finance Authority preliminarily approved Curtis Maruyasu America for tax benefits up to $1 million under the Kentucky Reinvestment Act, a program that was expanded in the Governor's Incentives for a New Kentucky bill last summer to assist companies that need to make significant capital investment in Kentucky facilities in order to remain competitive. "We applied for state tax incentives to enable us to purchase capital equipment for the purposes of vertically integrating our processing," added Vyverberg. "The equipment to be purchased will allow our valued Kentucky team members to make products in house that are currently being purchased from outside sources, including foreign suppliers."
