Bam Carney says state budget needs longterm fix State Representative for Adair and Taylor Counties John "Bam" Carney (R-Campbellsville) joined House and Senate members from throughout the Commonwealth in Frankfort, KY, to convene the 2010 Regular Session of the Kentucky General Assembly on Tuesday, January 5, 2010. Rep. Carney says the biggest issue facing the session, is the 2010-2012 biennial budget. The state is facing a deficit of nearly $1 billion dollars. Carney said he is not looking for a quick fix for the problems, but rather will look for longterm solutions. Answers won't be easy, Rep. Carney said. "While I admit some hard decisions will be made and complex solutions proposed, I know that we must consider every avenue available if we want to lift our state out of the trenches and move towards progress and financial stability." The legislature is expected to take up other issues, including restructuring the tax system and placing a constitutional amendment on the ballot to allow casino gambling in the state, raising the school drop-out age, and increasing the state government's financial transparency. Beginning this year, Representative Carney will serve on the House Agriculture and Small Business Committee. This new appointment comes as an addition to the other committees he previously served on as a member. Rep. Carney says he would like to hear from constituents. Those with questions or comments regarding bills under consideration by the General Assembly can reach him at home or through the toll-free message line at 1-800-372-7181. For those with internet access, Rep. Carney can be contacted at john.carney@lrc.ky.gov. This story was posted on 2010-01-06 04:32:22
