'''Dr. Jone" poetry' [was]...sometimes sly social commentary, sometimes poignant, sometimes rib-tickling funny, and always witty..."His works appeared sporadically in the Adair County News for several years, beginning in the late 1890s. The following example appeared in the February 29, 1908 edition: "Jim" is the penname of one of the finest historians anywhere. His work is distinguished by his ability to match present happenings with events from the past. Among his broad interests are Adair County, Lindsey Wilson College, Jamestown and Russell County, KY.
