Col. Wm. Casey School maintenance has not been neglected About: Dr Smith asks about school building maintenance By Patty Jones, Principal Col. Wm. Casey School, 220 Gen. John Adair DR., Columbia, KY I would like to respond to Dr. Smith's letter. Col. Wm. Casey has not been neglected. If you come to Casey you will see a bright, cheery building that is maintained to the best of the maintenance and custodial staff's ability. Among the major issues with the building are the age of the heating and cooling system, the design of the roof, and lack of adequate electrical and data wiring systems. In addition, due to the status placed on the building by the state we are limited in what we are permitted to do to the building. As I have stated earlier, Col. Wm. Casey is a good school: however, due to the limits of its capacity and capabilities it is not a facility that can provide a 21st century level education. Building a new school would give the district the ability to provide this level of instruction to all elementary students in the district. Again, it is not the neglect of the building that has put us in this position, it is the age and capacity of the building and the increasingly fast pace of change in the way education is delivered to this generation of students that creates our need. I hope that answers the questions, if not please feel free to contact me at the school. This story was posted on 2009-12-11 07:22:19
