Principal sends personal plea for new Col. Casey school

Dear Editor:
I have written one letter earlier stating the facts and concerns that make a new school to replace Col. Wm. Casey needed. This letter is more about my personal plea to the citizens of our county. I am not a political person and do not have all of the answers regarding the legal ramifications of the additional tax. I know that many have expressed mistrust of those who propose this effort. I truly do not see that. I see a group of men and women who are commissioned to provide the best education possible to the children of our community. I truly feel that this measure is an attempt to do that and nothing more. The funds from this tax have been explained to me and to the public time and time again. The money that we put forward will remain right here in Adair County and benefit our children now and for years to come.

I am, however, a compassionate person. When I walk in our school every morning I am greeted by over 400 smiling eager young faces. I want each of those students to have the same experiences and opportunities that students in surrounding and even in our own county have each day. A warm room to come to when they arrive from the bus, a spacious and welcoming classroom to go to each morning, the ability to walk down the hall without dodging buckets or drips, state of the art technology to expand their minds and skills and help them prepare for the future, and a school of which they can be proud and feel good about attending.

The way I see it we, the citizens of Adair County, have the opportunity to provide this for them sitting before us on December 15, 2009. We can provide our children with the facilities and tools to prosper in the 21st Century or we can sit idly by as the districts and counties around us march forward. I am asking that you consider the children that attend school now and in the future. Whether you have children in the school system or not they are the responsibility of our community. They are the future of Adair County and it is our responsibility to provide for them and our entire community. I watch as roads, justice systems and prisons have risen in our county. While I am pleased as can be for these areas I feel that our children are worthy of such improvements as well. I am asking, from the bottom of my heart, that each citizen of Adair County truly weigh the costs of this proposed tax. I do see it as a choice of the highest quality education of our children versus a small amount of money from each citizen of our county. Are our children worth our contribution? I think so.

In closing, I have been asked what will happen if the tax does not pass. My answer is nothing new, we will continue providing the best education possible to the students of Col. Wm. Casey with the resources and under the conditions we have. What will happen if the tax does pass? The answer is the same. We will continue to provide the best education possible to the students of Col. Wm. Casey with the resources and under the conditions we have and therein lay the difference.

Regardless of your stance I urge each and every one of you to go to the polls and vote on December 15.

I ask that you consider our children and vote yes for better schools for Adair County children.

Please add my name to the CWC list, Community Working for Children.
