Gene Hoots recognized at special Jeffries Hdw. event Retired electrician receives flag flown over US Capitol in his name, Kentucky Colonel certification, and recognization from Leon Lewis and Jeffries Hardware for his service as a retired electrician in Columbia Click on headline for full story plus two photos By Pam Hoots Gene Hoots of Columbia was recognized today by US Representative Ed Whitfield's office, represented by Sandy Simpson, with a flag flown over the US Capitol in his name. Sandy Simpson said, "We appreciate your service as a World War II veteran; and, your years of community service in Columbia and Adair County." All of Gene and his wife, Joyce's family were in attendance: Anna Claire Hoots, Gene and Joyce Hoots, Ryan Hoots, Paul Abell, Dr. Cathy Hoots Abell, Caitlyn Abell, Doug Hoots, Pam Hoots, and Tami Kinsey Hoots. Paul and Cathy Abell live in Bowling Green, where she is an associate professor at Western Kentucky University and Paul is with UPS-Bowling Green. Their daughter, Caitlyn, is a graduate student in genetics, statistics, and animal science at Iowa State. Doug and Tami Hoots live in Lexington, where Doug is a partner with Landrum-Shouse Law Firm. Their son, Ryan, 16, is a junior in high school and is an award-winning golfer and ice hockey player; daughter, Anna Claire, age 11, is in the gifted and talented program in Fayette County. In addition to receiving the flag, Gene Hoots, received a Kentucky Colonel certification from Leon Lewis with Jeffries Hardware.
