Here's Our Statement of Support

The Columbia Woman's Club, a federated club, is part of a network of women's clubs throughout the United States and Internationally. Together we work on similar projects within our communities. One of our main endeavors is to support education. It is through education that people have gained a higher living standard and learned how to solve problems.

There are many problems to be solved in this world. Chances are the problems will not be solved by people without an education. Children are eager learners, but their minds need resources and a stimulating environment, especially in today's world when new technologies are being developed at a fast pace.

New school buildings can help children learn and help teachers teach. When teachers are so overwhelmed to meet the needs of each child, they need to know there is a supportive community that cares about education. One of those ways is by providing adequate buildings to teach in.

A building that can no longer adequately be used for educating children reflects poorly on the kind of people who live in that community.

Col. William Casey fought in the Revolutionary War that established this country. He and his wife, Jane, established the first permanent settlement in Adair (then part of Green) County. Casey was so adamant about learning, that he hired a teacher to come to his fort to teach. What would he think of a building bearing his name that has become inadequate for educating children?

There are many ways to spend money. This tax for schools is one way - a very beneficial way, we believe.

-Members of the Columbia Woman's Club

One of these signs could save your life or the life of someone you love

(ADV) FFA Address Marker orders may be placed at Four Adair Co., KY businesses
We are announcing a new option to make it more convenient for people to place orders and pick up signs puchased from the Adair County FFA. Two local businesses have agreed to provide a location for people to place an order and pick up their sign when it is finished. You can now place an order at:

  • Day and Day Feed and Pet, 1011 Campbellsville RD, Columbia, KY

  • M & W Milling, 510 Short ST., Columbia, KY

  • Hardscratch Grocery, 7289 Hwy 55 South Road, Columbia, KY. In the Glensfork Community of Adair County. Phone (270) 384-4671

  • Burton Ace Hardware, 314 Campbellsville ST, Columbia, KY. Phone (270) 384-2696
We will pick up the orders every few days and call the person when the sign is ready to be picked up. Signs are still $15 and are a hot item for Chistmas since they fit perfectly into a large stocking. They are about the best gift I can think of for the person that already has everything and is hard to shop for. If a person wants a sign by Christmas, they will have to get their order in by December 15, 2010. which is the last day of school before break. Orders placed after this date will not likely be filled until after the New Year. -Kirby Hancock, Advisor, Adair County FFA
