Fatality crash in Taylor Co. Oct. 31, 2009, at KY 1061 at KY 55

Accident occurred Saturday morning at Lone Valley/New Columbia RD intersection

Eighty year old Tommy Smothers of Campbellsville, KY, died in Louisville, KY, following a two vehicle collision on KY 55 at KY 1061, approximately 5 miles south of Campbellsville and 14 miles north of Columbia, KY, at 9:10amET/8:10amCT.

Mr. Smothers was flown to the University of Louisville for multiple injuries. A passenger in Smothers vehicle, Kalvin Mann, was transported to Taylor County Hospital for leg and arm injuries.

The driver of the other vehicle, Robert Barnes, 46, Columbia, KY, was not injured.



According to the TCSO, Barnes was operating a 2001 Ford F-350, traveling west on KY 1061, and struck the Smothers vehicle, a 1995 Dodge Strata, traveling south on KY 55, when Barnes pulled onto KY 55.

At approximately 4:21pmET, the Taylor County Sheriff's Department was notified that Mr. Smothers had been pronounced dead.
