Lauren Lloyd receives SCC outstanding PTA Clinical Educator Award Click on headline for full story plus photo By Dave Cazalet, Jr., SCC Directior of Public RelationsThe Somerset Community College Physical Therapist Assistant Program recently hosted an Open House Event. During the Open House, the PTA program presented its annual Outstanding Clinical Educator Award to Lauren Lloyd of Somerset. Lloyd, a 1997 graduate of the SCC program, currently works as a PTA at Britthaven of Somerset and has additional extensive experience in the field of pediatrics. She is credentialed as a clinical instructor by the American Physical Therapy Association and has served as a clinical instructor for seven years. She is married to Bruce Lloyd of Somerset. The SCC Physical Therapist Program hosts open houses as a means of introducing students and members of the public to the physical therapy profession. Students currently enrolled in the program provided interactive learning demonstrations and campus tours to potential students. "This is a great way to showcase our program and provide information to students who are considering a career in healthcare," state Dr. Steve Hammons, the program's Academic Coordinator of Clinical Education. "This gives our students an opportunity to share the knowledge they have acquired and serve as advocates for the profession." The program hosted a number of events during October, which was designated as "National Physical Therapy Month". Program students were recognized earlier in the month for their fundraising efforts for scholarships and the PT-PAC by the Kentucky Physical Therapy Association. The program also delivered presentations about the profession to eighth grade students from Wayne County. The event was attended by more than thirty prospective students representing fifteen counties. The PTA Program is a selective admissions program with an application deadline of April 1. Those interested in formally applying may contact the program director at ron.meade@kctcs.edu. This story was posted on 2009-10-29 21:26:16
