By Ellen Zornes

Adair County Elementary School (ACES) was overrun last night, Tuesday, October 27, 2009, by creatures of the night as approximately 500 ghosts, goblins, witches, pirates, ninjas and several princesses joined in the fun of this year's community wide HallowRead.

Everyone had a howling good time as we feasted on pizza, soft drinks and water and visited the many spooooky reading and activity rooms. Weird Scientist, Susan Peck, and her apprentices entertained the crowd with their many feats of science showing us how much fun chemistry really is.

We would like to thank the many volunteers who gave of their time to make our 6th annual HallowRead such a success.

And a special thank you also to our community partners for making the evening possible and for always believing in our kids: Wayne Ray at IGA Food Store; Pizza Hut; Adair County Elementary School; Adair County High Chemistry Club; 4-H; Family Resource Centers; Lindsey Wilson College Upward Bound Program; L.E.A.D. Adair County; Rotary Club; Adair County Public Library Board; A.C.T.I.O.N. Generation; WAIN Radio; WHVE Radio; ColumbiaMagazine.com; Adair Progress; Community Voice; Adair County Schools Title I and Title IV Programs. We could not do these extra and fun events without your help...you are greatly appreciated.

And, to our parents and grandparents for taking the time and effort to allow your child to be part of HallowRead!

So, "Until next year, my pretties...keep reading and have a safe Halloween!"

Ellen Zornes, A.C.T.I.O.N. Generation
