Historic meeting tonight in Adair Judicial Center

By Ed Waggener

A historic first will take place this afternoon at 5:30pmCT, Tuesday, October 27, 2009, when the Adair County Project Development Board holds it regular monthly meeting in the building at 201 Campbellsville ST, Columbia, KY.

The meeting will mark the first time the 35,000 s.f. building is the venue for an official gathering. The Branscum Construction Co. trailer office has been removed from the site as final site finish work is completed.

The meeting is open to the board.

But the meeting does not have the promise of much excitement. There will be a report from the architect, from the construction manager, the bills will be approved, and there will be a discussion of the rotunda dome and the recently approved fountain.

The fountain is being built instead of a clocktower, which had been favored by the Administrative Office of the Courts (AOC). The AOC had nixed the idea of a fountain, earlier, citing high maintenance. However, when Judge Melton learned of other judicial centers having fountains and yet others, including Russell County, in line to have fountains, she asked the AOC to reconsider their postion and they have approved one for Columbia. The fountain is expected to cost substantially less than the clocktower would have cost.
