Getting The Rusty Nail tavern, Columbia, KY, ready to open

2009-10-08 - Downtown Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener. Jim Hadley, of Majestic Yachts, Columbia Economic Development Board, and Tommy Yacht fame, was putting his skills to work in a great cause, putting up Columbia's first "tavern" since Epp's Place went out of business when Columbia went dry shortly after FDR's New Deal ended prohibition. The Rusty Nail, however is the main stage for Downtown Days/Old West Festival which starts Friday afternoon at 4pmCT. Above, Hadley is aboard one of two scissor lifts which, in a well choregraphed synchronized scissor lift move with one on the back side, draped the main stage with a plastic roof. The stage is a marvel of engineering, and looks plenty safe even with out the Kentucky Department of Education's BG (Building and Grounds) red tape, and went up almost as fast as a Jehovah's Witness Quick Build Church or a building at Lindsey Wilson College. 2009-10-10 - Burkesville ST at Fortune ST Crossing, Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener.
One of the most fun things to watch in the build up to Downtown Days last night was the use of a Kawasaki Mule to get around downtown. Almost everyone was envious of Sgt. Jason Cross (waving) and Chief Mark Harris, who were delivering hot sandwiches and drinks for supper Friday evening, October 9, 2009, from Moore's Pool Room, a permanent Downtown attraction, to members of the 623rd Bravo Battery, Campbellsville, KY, KY National Guard who were assisting Downtown Days with traffic control at Fortune and Burkesville STs, at Jamestown and Reed, at Reed/Merchant at Campbellsville ST, and on Greensburg ST at Monroe ST.
