The ACHS Boy's Golf Team's state tournament bid came up a little short On Tuesday afternoon, September 29, 2009, at Maywood Country Club in Bardstown, KY

The Regional Tournament Format had the 19 team field competing for 2 spots in the 2009 Boy's Golf State Tournament. The Indians came up a little shy as their team score of 329 was good enough for a 3rd place tie.

The Indians were only bested by West Jessamine's 315 and Russell County's 319. Although the Indians came up a little short as a team, Sophomore Van Giles carded a round of 75 to earn a spot in next week's state tournament as an individual with a 3rd place overall finish.

"What can I say?" Coach Steve Burton said, "These kids gave me everything they had today and that is all you can ever ask for out of your team. We put ourselves in position to accomplish our ultimate goal of the state tournament, we just came up a little short.

"I could not be any prouder of these young gentlemen. They are absolutely terrific They are a very talented bunch of golfers but, they are even a better group of young men. Their character and heart really stood out today.

"When I sit back and reflect on our season, I am astonished at how well we have played all year long. They fought to the very last hole today but, it just wasn't enough today.

"As for Van, I am so proud of him. He set out today with an individual score of 75 in order to get to the state tournament . Van birdied the last hole to shoot the target score right on the dot. I am so glad that the entire state will get a look at just how talented this young man is. Van is, absolutely, one of the most talented underclassmen golfers in the state. The sky is the limit for this young man. The best thing is that even though Van is an extremely talented golfer, he is even a better young gentleman.

"The 2009 Boy's Golf State Tournament will be held next Tuesday and Wednesday at Bowling Green Country Club in Bowling Green, KY. You can keep track of Van's round by going to the KHSAA,ORG website and clicking on the live scoring board on their homepage," Coach Burton concluded.
