C-ville University dedicates new Education Building today Today marks milestone event in 103 year tradition started with Russell Creek Academy in 1906. Speakers today to include President Michael V. Carter, Vice President Benji Kelly, Dean of School of Education Dr. Brenda Priddy, Ms. Ashley Greer, Vice President Dr. Frank Cheatham, Trustee Mr. Paul Osborne, Mr. James Achterh of Richard D. Van Lunen Foundation. Special ColumbiaMagazine.com story The new Campbellsville University School of Education building at 302 N. Hoskins AV, Campbellsville, KY, will be dedicated today, Wednesday, September 23, 2009, at 11:15amET/10:15CT. The ceremonies will take place at the new building, located directly across N. Hoskins AV from Campbellsville University's signature building, Ransdell Chapel. The program and brief history of Campbellsville University School of Education and Russell Creek Academy follows: PROGRAM
Teacher education was one of the founding programs of this institution when the Russell Creek Academy was established in 1906. The Academy began providing normal school teacher training along with elementary and secondary classes in 1907 and had trained 350 teachers by 1917. College courses with normal and business departments started after the Russell Creek Academy became Campbellsville Junior College in 1924. Later, the Education Department began offering B.S. degree programs in elementary and secondary education after Campbellsville College became a four-year institution in 1957. The education program continued to grow and achieve becoming the Professional Studies Division in 1973 and then the School of Education in 1998. The National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education accredited the School of Education in 2007 and an Alpha Epsilon Omicron chapter of Kappa Delta Pi, an international honor society in education, was started in 2009.
