State vehicle auction brings in more than $330,000 Additional sales to cities and counties could bring total to $434,00 from this sale From Governor's Communications Office FRANKFORT, KY - Gov. Steve Beshear said that nearly 200 surplus state vehicles were sold at auction today, netting more than $330,000. Cities and counties from across the Commonwealth were also given the opportunity to purchase, at pre-established prices, vehicles before today's public auction. This allowed several city and county leaders the chance to buy vehicles they needed at economical prices, saving their communities money. Various cities and counties have expressed intent to purchase 32 vehicles for a total of $107,513. The average mileage on these vehicles is 109,393. If these transactions are finalized, the total revenue from this sale will be nearly $434,000. Proceeds from the sale will be used to purchase more energy efficient and environmentally clean vehicles for the state's fleet, a move that will in the long run save taxpayer dollars as well. "Based on previous auctions, we knew there was a market for the quality used vehicles we had available for sale today," said Gov. Beshear. "I was really pleased to see that we had such a large turnout for what was a very successful auction." Some 400 people attended the auction today conducted by the Division of Fleet Management and the Division of Surplus Properties, both agencies of the Finance and Administration Cabinet. At the auction, used trucks, cars, vans and SUVs were sold at competitive prices to the general public for several hours with vehicles going for as much as $6,200. Highlights of today's auction include:
