2nd Annual CROP Hunger Walk will be Sat., Nov. 14, 2009

By Dr. Greg A. Phelps

Columbia;s 2nd Annual CROP Hunger Walk will take place on Saturday, November 14, 2009, starting at 10:30amCT. The location is yet to be determined and will be announced later.

CROP Hunger Walk is a national event to raise awareness of poverty issues, and to raise money for local and global hunger relief. The local CROP Hunger Walk is being planned by Lindsey Wilson College students as a service-learning project for the Communication for Social Change course.

Last year's local walk raised more than $800 for hunger relief programs, with more than $200 going to support the Adair Food Bank.

For this year's walk, the student organizers plan to include a canned food drive. Businesses, churches, civic groups and other organizations, as well as individuals, are encouraged to participate by donating funds and/or supplies, forming walk teams, and promoting the event.
