Says Whitley House in Crab Orchard, not Stanford, KY

About: KY buys site of race track at William Whitley State Historic Site

Dear Sir:

You have upset some of my sensitive neighbors because nowhere in your article did you mention the town of Crab Orchard. Wm. Whitley House is only two miles from Crab Orchard and approximately 8 miles from Stanford.

You should be aware that Crab Orchard was once a booming town in our past, but now is struggling and fighting to exist. The bad judgment of our town's leader has brought so much debt that even unincorporating has been discussed. The 2 million dollar loan to a lady for the building of a stamping factory a few years back has left our town with no means to pay off the loan.

The community feels Stanford is attempting to railroad Crab Orchard out of existence. Future articles that include Crab Orchard as the nearest town may not have any effect our economy, but it would definately boost the moral of our community. Wm. Whitney House has always been part of Crab Orchards Heritage, and a part of local prude, especially with the school and the youth.

I hope your aware that the springs in Crab Orchard attracted many travelers to our community as it was thought that the springs had healing and health powers back in an earlier time.

Local citizens cling to hope of a rebirth of Crab Orchard and want THe Wm. Whitney House recognized as part of our town. Can you not recognize our need to claim this historical site as Crab Orchards heritage?

PLease help us keep our town alive bu giving Crab Orchatd the credit for Whitney House being our claim to fame.

Thank you, with much regard,

s/Arnold Newby
