Obituary: Donald Hugh Loy, 75, native of Russell Co., KY

Mr. Loy was a member of a large, distinguished family with deep roots in Russell and Adair Counties, KY. HIs death follows by just four months and 22 days the death of his beloved wife of over 51 years, Joyce Robertson Loy. He attended Lindsey Wilson College and is a graduate of the University of Kentucky College of Engineering. He was a 39 year member of the Okolona Christian Church where he served as a deacon and elder. Mr. Loy was a veteran of the Koran War and will be accorded full military honors by Columbia Post 6097 at his burial in Haven Hill Cemetery, Columbia, KY.

Donald Hugh Loy, age 75 years, passed away in Louisville, KY, on Wednesday, August 26, 2009 at 11:57pmET at Suburban Hospital.

The funeral service will be Sunday, August 30, 2009 at 1:30pmCT at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home, 210 Greensburg ST, Columbia, KY, with Bro. Hugh Withers the officiating clergy. Interment in Haven Hill Cemetery, 1276 Liberty RD, Columbia, KY, with full military honors presented by local VFW Post 6097. Visitation will be after 11:30amCT, Sunday, August 30, 2009, at the funeral home.



Donald Hugh Loy, native of Russell Co., KY (October 5, 1933 - August 26, 2009)

Donald Hugh Loy was born October 5, 1933, the son of the late James A. and Gertrude Lawless Loy and died August 26, 2009, at the age of 75 years, 10 months, and 21 days.

A native of Russell County, KY, he had resided in Louisville for the past 40 years, was a 39 year member of Okolona Christian Church where he served as a Deacon and Elder, a retired electrical engineer, a registered Professional Engineer in state of Indiana, and a Korean War Veteran,

He attended Lindsey Wilson College in 1956 and 1957, attended the University of Kentucky, graduating January 1961 with a degree in Electrical Engineering.

He was preceded in death by his wife Joyce Robertson Loy on April 4, 2009.

Survived by the following:
  • His son Victor Loy of Jacksonville, AR

  • HIs three daughters: Marsha Reddick and husband Tex, Columbia, KY, Teresa Loy, Tucson, AZ, and Karen Lea and husband Ted, Shelbyville, KY

  • One grandson: Terrence Allen Lea III
  • One step-granddaughter: Bess Reddick Standley and husband Brandon who children are Evan, Owen & Reagan

  • Brothers: Clifford Loy and wife Phyllis, Mt. Washington, KY; Billie J. Loy and wife Ellen, Charles D. Loy and wife Linda, and Kenneth Loy and wife Deanna of Russell Springs, KY

  • Sisters: Joyce Hoots and husband Gene,; Bobbie Jones and husband Randall, all of Columbia, KY; and Nellie Wilson of Russell Springs, KY

  • Brothers and sisters-in-law: Howard Robertson, Jerry Robertson, Michael Robertson, Shirley England, Fay Coomer and Brenda Bennett
  • And a host of nieces and nephews
