Comment: Wet county would bring more business

About: For change but not for Columbia being wet

Letter from Amy Pike for Wet vote for county

I am afraid I have to disagree on this one. I am not a much of a drinker at all and rarely consume an alcoholic beverage; however, I do support the wet vote for our county.

There are more DUI arrests in a dry town, than in a wet town. People are going to consume alcohol if they chose to regardless of how far they must drive to obtain it. If this county would allow alcohol sales legally, the money spent elsewhere would be spent here.

County would attract more tourists, businesses

The county as a whole would attract more restaurants, hotels, tourists, businesses, etc. One of the key factors that someone interested in opening a business is alcohol sales in the area.

I am not fond of the "moist" vote; however, it is better than nothing at all. I think that anyone of legal age should be able to purchase alcoholic beverages if they so desire without having to travel to other counties to do so.

People make poor decisions in their lives everyday, but you cannot blame the sale of alcohol - it's the person who choses to consume it that makes that choice. Sometimes making things more accessible makes the concept less appealing. My opinion is every town should be wet, keep the revenue from the sales, and enforce the laws relating to alcohol strictly.

No tolerance for drinking and driving

I have no tolerance for drinking and driving; however, selling alcohol here or two counties away isn't going to change the fact that people make poor decisions and chose to drive while intoxicated.

Vote the county Wet

I hope that people will look at the big picture and realize that are much worse issues in our community than whether or not to sell alcohol. I would much rather someone drink a few beers than do illegal drugs - and we know that drugs are a major problem in our community. I hope that people will really think about this and if we get the opportunity, vote for the county to be wet.
