Happy Hollow story a reminder of deadly tornado of 1971

Memory rekindled of a chilling account by the late journalist Pete Walker in The Columbia Statesman about the tornado which, on April 27, 1971, took the lives of six Adair Countians and injured some 35-40 others. Those who lost their lives were Mr. and Mrs. Dewey Smith, Mrs. Herschel Cundiff, Douglas Froedge, Ruth Ann McCarol, 7, and her mother, Robbie McCarol, 27. For those of us who lived through that night, the acount is difficult to read, even today, through the cloud of tears. -CM
