ColumbiaMagazine.com special story

Doyle Lloyd, president of the Adair County High School Band Boosters, accepted a check for $2,000 from Sue Stivers, Executive Director of the Columbia-Adair County Tourism Commission, on Thursday, May 7, 2009.

With the deposit of the $2,000 check, the Macy's Day Fund Drive thermometer at AdairBand.com now stands at $84,806, and the drive now needs to raise $55,194 in the next 202 days, or an average of $273.23 per day. Donations of that amount, to be a Band Hero for a Day, or to Match the Magistrates with a $300 donation, can be done online at the Band's website.

Stivers said the exposure the community will get on national Tv will mean that the money is the best advertising the tourism commission could ever hope to buy. "This may be a once in a lifetime opportunity for the tourist commission," she said.
