Address Markers would all be up by 2027 at present rate Rate of sale of Reflective Address Markers picks up dramatically, but is still so slow that completion of project - which could mean the difference in life or death at times - could take until the year 2027 to complete The rate of Sales of Reflective Address Markers are up nearly seven-fold this week, over past rate, but only from a very low average, heretofore, of 1 per week in the seven years since the program was started. The good news: Sales, in a way are up seven-fold over the average since the Address Marker Program was started in February 2002. The sad news: At this rate, the county will be adequately marked in the year 2027, assuming no new addresses would be added in that time. < In the seven years and two months since the Columbia-Adair County Chamber of Commerce started the Address Marker program, there have been 375 signs sold, Sue Stivers, Executive Director of the Chamber, said this morning, approximately 2,625 days or 375 weeks ago. That means that enough signs have been sold to mark approximately 5% of the addresses needing them. The sales have averaged, until now, 1 every 7 days. There could be a little pride taken in the fact that 4 were been sold in the first three days of this week, according to the hardworking Adair County Sheriff's Deputies Alice Stephens and Suzanne Rogers, who assemble the signs for the Chamber. If the trend continues sales of the signs will have increased sevenfold. The signs are $10 each, and can be purchased in the office of Adair County Sheriff Ralph Curry, in the Adair County Courthouse, for now at 500 Public Square (but will be located in the Annex Building, 424 Public Square sometime later in the year 2009), Columbia, KY.
