Cars must be topping 60mph on Burkesville ST, resident says It's a sad commentary on the community that it is allowed to continue About: "You may not can fight City Hall but you can get them to listen" To ColumbiaMagazine.com: It sounds like speeding must be a problem all over Columbia. Having lived on Burkesville Street for five years, I am still amazed (as I have mentioned in this media many times before) at the speeding on Burkesville Street, here in the 300 block. Close calls, often, for cars pulling out of Guardian Street Sometimes in the middle of the night you can hear speeding cars who must be topping 60 miles an hour on this street. I have seen many close calls as people pull out from Guardian Street and a speeding car has to swerve in the other lane to avoid them. I just don't understand why this is allowed to continue. I have been told by long-time residents that it is political. I would hate to think this day and age that this could be the reason. I can't figure out if the violators are just thumbing their nose at the police or if it is just an unwritten rule in Columbia to look the other way. In either case, it is a sad commentary. s/Donna Saunders This story was posted on 2009-05-06 12:17:20
