Notes on red squirrel hospitality at Happy Hollow

They're choosey eaters. Chipmunks also abound
Andrea Bailey has given us a bit more insight into the delightful visitors at herhome, the family of red squirrels, above. "The one on the bottom is quite a bit smaller than the one above it, so we kinda thought it may be a baby," she writes. "As far as where they are - we live in the Happy Hollow 'community' on Holmes Bend Road, about 2 miles from the Knifley RD/Ky 551.

"We have lots of acorns and chestnuts on our property, so they pretty much feed themselves," she said. But they also have tried to subsidize the critters. "About three years ago, we bought a squirrel feeder, but they didn't seem interested in what we had to offer. But we have been thinking about buying another one. Last year we didn't see many squirrels around our house, but we've seen at least three this year.

"Occasionally we'll have a chipmunk or two, too, but it's been awhile since we've seen them. And those little boogers move so fast, it'd be near impossible to snap a pic of them!"CM Request: Does anyone have a photograph of the Happy Hollow Barn from Walter Grant days? If so, it would be great if it could be shared with CM Readers, just as it would be great if roadside signs marked the location of the picturesque valley. -EW
