Casey Countian 2nd, Russell Countian 3rd in SCC photo contest Josh Rodgers' of Liberty, KY, wins second for 'A Girl with Flowers.' Lisa Russell of Russell Springs, KY, wins third for photo of Cumberland Falls in Autumn. First is won by Chris Zollner for ghostly photo taken near Herrington Lake, in Somerset Community College's Media Matters Contest Click on headline for complete story with the three winning photos By David Cazalet, Jr., SCC Director of Public Affairs Danville, KY resident Chris Zollner's ghostly photograph of smoke rolling down a hillside toward Herrington Lake captured top honors and a $75 cash award in Somerset Community College's Media Matters Photography Club's spring contest. Taking the second place award and a $50 prize was Casey County, KY resident Josh Rodgers' image of "A Girl in Flowers." Third place honors and $25 went to Lisa Russell of Russell Springs, KY, and her photo of "Cumberland Falls State Park." The contest, titled Our Place On Earth: The Beauty of South Central Kentucky, was a collaborative effort between the club and SCC's Earth Day Celebration committee. Winners were announced and presented cash prizes during the college's Earth Day activities on Sunday, April 19, 2009. Honorable mention awards were presented to Ashley Stephens, Janis Hatfield, Marcy Anderson, Amy Zollner, Veronica DeBord and Deana Barrett. Media Matters Club President Cathryn Patrick said she was very pleased with the contest. "The judges had a very difficult time making a decision because of the quality of photographs received," she said. Media Matters is a club for those at SCC interested in photography. The club provides an online home for students, staff and faculty to post their digital images. To view and comment club photos, go to Flickr.com and search for Media Matters under Groups.
