$1.5 million grant for ACWD will stimulate Adair economy

Grant will stimulate local economy, allow Adair County Water District to proceed with 12" line around Columbia Western Bypass, build million gallon tank at Holladay Place

By Kristin Walker

WASHINGTON - U.S. Representative Ed Whitfield (KY-01) announced today that the Adair County Water District will receive $1.5 million from the U.S. Department of Commerce Economic Development Administration (EDA).

"During tough economic times, making improvements to our communities' infrastructure is a great way to provide a boost to our local economies and create new jobs," Whitfield said. "I am pleased that the Adair County Water District has been awarded these funds and look forward to continuing to support them in any way I can."

The funds will be used for construction of water infrastructure for Adair County, which suffered greatly from storms in 2008. The new construction is expected to spur economic development in Adair County, creating jobs and generating $15.2 million in private investment.

The EDA serves as a venture capitalist resource to meet the economic development needs of communities throughout the United States. EDA's mission is to lead the federal economic development agenda by promoting innovation and competitiveness, preparing American regions for growth and success in the worldwide economy.
