Obituary: Aaron Pyles, 87, Adair native, Republican leader

Mr. Pyles was born a member of a large, influential Adair County family. He was a longtime power in the Republican Party, a close friend and political ally of Representative Tim Lee Carter, a member of the South Campbellsville Campbellsville Baptist Church. He was a veteran of WWII, a businessman, and a Campbellsville Water Board member for 19 years.
Belated obituary; burial was April 7, 2009

Aaron E. Pyles, 87, of Campbellsville, KY, son of the late J. B. Pyles and Retta Mae Bryant Pyles, was born August 24, 1921, in Adair County, Kentucky. He died at 8:47pmET., Saturday, April 4, 2009, at his home.

The funeral service was Tuesday, April 7, 2009, at Parrott & Ramsey Funeral Home, Campbellsville, KY, with Rev Shaun Caudill officiatiing, with burial in the Campbellsville Memorial Gardens with full military honors by the Marion County Veterans Honor Guard.



He accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and savior and was a member of the South Campbellsville Baptist Church.

He was Field Representative for United States Congressman, Dr. Tim Lee Carter for 16 years. Not only was Dr. Carter his employer, but also a loved and trusted friend. He was a proud member of the Republican Party. Aaron owned and operated several businesses through the years and was also employed by C.G. (Squeak) Collins.

He was a veteran of World War II having served his country proudly and honorably in the United States Army as a military policeman and a member of the American Legion.

He served on the Campbellsville Water Board for some 19 years.

He united in marriage to Polly Bell June 26, 1947 (The love of his life). She preceded him in death August 24, 1991, his birthday.

He is survived by the following:
  • A daughter: Debbie Benningfield and husband, John of Campbellsville, KY

  • A son: Aaron Brett Pyles and wife, Jennifer Richardson Pyles of Radcliff, KY

  • Two grandchildren: Jessica Lea Benningfield Coppage and husband, Todd of Campbellsville, KY; and Aaron Cord Pyles of Radcliff, KY

  • One great-grandson: Jonathan Tanner Coppage of Campbellsville, KY

  • Three sisters and two brothers: Altha Pyles Burton and Rollin Pyles of Columbia, KY; Clara Pyles Jones and Lyla Pyles of Campbellsville, KY; and Howard Pyles of Cincinnati; OH

  • Several nieces and nephews and many other relatives and friends.
He was also preceded in death by two grandchildren: Kristin Ann Benningfield and Jonathan Lyle Benningfield; and nine siblings: Hobert Pyles, Finus (Judge) Pyles, Vitus (Cotton) Pyles, Claris Pyles, Bonnie Pyles Rice, Kennith Pyles, Robert Pyles, Walter (Jug) Pyles, and James Pyles.

PALLBEARERS: Wayne Burton, D.R. Jones, Mike Pendleton, Phil Pendleton, Aaron Cord Pyles, Bobby Pyles, David Allen Pyles, Harry Pyles, Joseph Pyles, and Kenny Pyles.

HONORARY PALLBEARERS: Kelsay (Bug) Barnes Ernie Pyles Leonard Barnes Randall Pyles John Benningfield Donald Richardson Jimmy Bogues Welby Simpson Bennie Bryant, South Campbellsville Church family, Clifton hale, Lynwood Kessler, Steve Martin, The McDonald's Gang, and Chris Pendleton.
