Letter: Says idea of Earth Hour is Idiotic Letter in opposition to: "EARTH HOUR is at 830pm local time tonight March 28 2009" To ColumbiaMagazine.com: It strikes me as exceedingly strange that we have again reached a time in our human existence that the masters of propaganda have managed to brainwash a lot of people worldwide into accepting an endless assault on all the advancements in science, engineering and technology. "The Earth Hour" is a product of the World Wildlife Fund to ask people to turn off all possible electrical use to increase awareness of energy conservation. The above thoughts originated with Alan Caruba who asks the following two questions: What does this have to do with wildlife? and why should anyone bother? The Earth is not running out of coal and immense strides are being made in the clean, safe and efficient use of this Natural Resource. The same for Oil. There are vast amounts in the Arctic, Brazil, and Offshore U.S. Rather than conserve what does not need conserving, we ought to be more concerned trying to figure out how to expand energy use into those parts of the world where there is no electricity and as a result, there is no economy only poverty, sickness and early death. As I said above, I have paraphrased freely from Caruba's blog but it sure makes more sense to me that the idiotic lights out foolishness. s/Jon Halsey> This story was posted on 2009-03-29 00:43:38
