Lindsey Wilson Womens Basketball loses in MSC semi-finals Falls 61-51 to Cumberlands in MSC Tournament By Chris Wells, LWC Sports Information Director FRANKFORT, KY - Twenty-five turnovers were too much to overcome today as the Lindsey Wilson College womens basketball lost 61-51 to the University of the Cumberlands in Mid-South Conference Tournament semifinals at the Frankfort Civic Center. The Blue Raiders (24-8) now must wait to see if they will receive one of the at-large bids into the NAIA National Tournament. The bracket will be announced next week. No. 2-seed University of the Cumberlands used a 12-3 run midway through the second half to break open a close game. The game featured 16 ties and 13 lead changes. Lindsey Wilson led as late as the 10-minute mark of the second half following sophomore Viktoria Krells put-back to give the Blue Raiders a 42-41 lead. But Cumberlands (26-4) responded with a 12-3 run over the next four minutes and never looked back. Cumberlands seniors Madison Flowers and Kenyada Wade hit bookend three-pointers -- around back-to-back baskets by junior Lauren Martin -- to take a 53-45 lead with 5:59 left. The Blue Raiders closed within six points on three different occasions, but could get no closer. The Blue Raiders finished the game out-shooting the Patriots -- 44.2 percent to 42.3 -- but failed to get enough looks due to the turnovers. Lindsey Wilson struggled throughout the game protecting the basketball as Cumberlands turned the Blue Raider miscues into 16 points. The Cumberlands defense also held the Blue Raiders without a three-pointer. Lindsey Wilson missed all six of its attempts. Lindsey Wilson junior Sierra Rambert scored a game-high 21 points. Sophomore and MSC Player of the Year Viktoria Krell added 19 points. Four Patriots scored in double figures led by Martins 14 points. Wade and junior Amber Neace added 11 points and Flowers chipped in 10. Cumberlands advances to the MSC Tournament finals to face the winner of the other semifinal game featuring top-seeded Campbellsville University and fifth-seeded Georgetown College. Tip-off for the championship game is scheduled for 1:00pmET. This story was posted on 2009-03-08 04:18:46
