GOVERNOR STEVE BESHEAR and other dignitaries took part in the groundbreaking ceremony this morning, Monday, February 9, 2009, including, from left, Mason and Tessa Pyles, children of Danny and Sandy Pyles; KY Highway Department District 8 Engineer Tammy Wilson, Adair County Judge Executive Ann Melton, Columbia Mayor Pat Bell, Governor Beshear, Senator Vernie McGaha, State Representative Bam Carney, Tim Hill of Hillview Construction Co., the Contractors for the Job, Kentucky Transportation Cabinet Secretary Joe Prather, and Edgar Hancock and his great great nephew, Cy Yarberry. A large crowd was on hand for the event, with Secretary Prather speaking briefly and introducing Governor Beshear for the main address.

Larry Smith, news anchor for WHVE FM 92.7 the WAVE, Columbia-Russell Springs, and the Big Dawg Radio Station, Campbellsville, KY, told Governor Beshear that A.L. Sinclair, right, was his hero. "This man has done more to clean up Adair County, to make it the cleanest county in the state, than anybody," Smith told the governor, who thank Mr. Sinclair for the great service he is rendering.

CHUCK WOLFE, executive director of the Office of Public Affairs for the Transportation Cabinet attended the groundbreaking ceremony. With him is District 8, Somerset, Kentucky Highway Department Public Affairs Director Stephanie Daffron. Mr. Wolfe was with the Associated Press for 26 years. During that time he was a frequent guest on KET's Comment on Kentucky. He said he was really happy to be in Adair County today. "I love to get out of the office," he said, "especially when it is for such a great occasion as this."

KENTUCKY TRANSPORTATION CABINET SECRETARY JOE PRATHER addressed the audience and introducted Governor Steven L. Beshear. Mr. Prather recalled his long association with the people of Adair County, saying it was almost like coming home to be with friends he has known so long, including former Adair County Judge Executive Richard L. Walker and long time Democratic political power Grover Cleveland Gilpin, both of whom were in the audience. District 3 Magistrate, CJE make plea for KY 55 S bridge

THIRD DISTRICT MAGISTRATE SAMMY BAKER, center, used the groundbreaking ceremony to ask Secretary Joe Prather to fund the replacement of the KY 55 S bridge over Glens Fork Creek. "One woman who crosses over it daily has nightmares about the bridge," he told Secretary Prather. Adair County Judge Executive Ann Melton, left, and a good turnout of Glens Fork, Montpelier, and Zion area families were on hand to support Magistrate Baker. Secretary Prather said that he'd look into the funding situation when he returned to Frankfort. Adair County Beshear Administration Contact Richard Walker said that the bridge is his top roads priority for Adair County at this time.

Gentle sweep of new section of KY 768

JUST SIX DAYS AFTER GOVERNOR STEVEN L. BESHEAR came to Columbia for the groundbreaking for the KY 61 S. project, the KY 768 connector behind Antioch Church already shows the gentle sweep and shape of what it will look like when complete.
