Pai Chai U. folk music, dance group to perform at LWC tonight

By Phil Hanna

Southcentral Kentucky residents will have an opportunity to hear Korean folk music and enjoy traditional Korean dance at a February 9, 2009, concert by the Pai Chai University Choir and Dance Troupe.

The concert will be at 7:00pmCT on Monday, February 9, 2009, in V.P. Henry Auditorium. The concert is free and open to the public.

"This will be a wonderful opportunity for the region's citizens to experience Korean culture," said Lindsey Wilson President William T. Luckey Jr. "Pai Chai University and Lindsey Wilson both share a strong Methodist heritage, and we are pleased to host their choir and dance troupe for this special event."

At the Feb. 9 concert, the Pai Chai students will perform salmunori--traditional Korean folk music--and fan dances choreographed in cultural traditions.

Pai Chai University is located in the provincial capital Daejeon, South Korea's fifth largest city with a population of 1.4 million, about the size of Philadelphia. One of South Korea's oldest modern universities, Pai Chai was founded in 1885 by missionaries to Korea. Today, the school has more than 14,000 students in undergraduate and graduate programs.

The public is also invited to a special pre-concert dinner with the Pai Chai Choir and Dance Troupe in the Roberta D. Cranmer Dining & Conference Center. The dinner begins at 5:00pmCT, and regular meal rates apply.

In addition to Lindsey Wilson, the Pai Chai group is also performing at several other U.S. schools, including Andrew (GA) College, Centenary (LA) College, Goucher (MD) College, Martin Methodist (TN) College and West Virginia Wesleyan University.

The Pai Chai University Choir and Dance Troupe will perform at 7:00pmCT on Monday, February 9, 2009 in the Lindsey Wilson College V.P. Henry Auditorium. For more information, contact the college at info@lindsey.edu or (270) 384-8001.
