Letter: From former Adair Countian in Oklahoma About: Looking Ahead 2009: Writer says "No" to alcohol To ColumbiaMagazine.com I haven't lived in Adair County for over 40 years, but I am a ACHS and Lindsey Wilson grad. To the lady that doesn't want booze sold or gambling I am sorry to have to tell you this but it has been sold there for as long as I can remember, and I am 65. Also, the same is true for gambling. I don't drink or gamble, sorry that's not right. I gamble ever time I get on the highway. It doesn't matter whether you vote yes or no; those that want to will still drink and those that don't will not. I know it is said that if it is legal more will drink, I say that isn't true. What will happen is those that are hiding their drinking will stop hiding. When I lived there. the preachers and the bootleggers were the ones who opposed legal selling the strongest, and I guess the same is true today. The preachers don't want people to drink because they think it is sinful. What they often forget is all things can be sinful if used in the wrong manner. How often do you hear a really fat preacher preach on gluttony? The Bible says it is as big a sin as drinking to the drunkeness. Bootleggers have a really big reason for being against legal sales. It is how they make a living. Vote yes or vote no just vote, but before you vote make sure that you are voting the right way regardless what your friend be they church member, preacher or bootlegger tell you. Remember, God will forgive all of you sins. But you have ask. s/Bobby D. Jessie Del City, OK Here are some related links:
