Show the world birds are important in Adair County Sue Stivers, executive director of the Columbia-Adair County Tourism Commission said, "I'm hoping that Adair Countians will show the world that birds are important here, that we take the environment seriously."Stivers said that this year, many Adair County school and civic organizations are planning to take part in the Great Backyard Bird Count, in addition to hundreds of other individuals. "Birds provide a special pleasure for me," Stivers said, "as they do for so many others. I'm taking part in the 2009 Bird Count mainly because I love watching them. That's a personal reason," she said. "Adair County has opportunities for bird watching few other places have, and that's helpful, in a big way, to our tourism program."Stivers tourism commission office is in the Chamber Building, 201 Burkesville ST., Columbia, KY, phone (270) 384-6020. The editors of ColumbiaMagazine.com would like to receive news of plans of organizations who will take part in the count.
