A pearl of wisdom from Col. Beanpole, a great Adair Countian

By Dave Rosenbaum

In the fall of 1954, I came home from school at Yellow Hammer one day to find Hudson Willis, (Beanpole) on top of our house installing a TV antenna. We only got Channel 3 in Louisville, but it was great!

In unpacking some books last week I ran across a copy of Best and Worst of Beanpole.

My mother had given the book to me for a Christmas present in 1971.

Col. Pole' book, near the end, contained perhaps the most profound statement I have ever read.

I was so impressed at the time that I had the quotation lettered in old English, had it framed and it hung on my office wall for better than twenty years.

In summing up his interesting life as an airman, roughneck on an oil rig, TV technician, journalist, Kentucky Colonel, etc., Colonel Pole stated,
"From job to job I searched for an easy way, which was not."
Here's to a great Adair Countian, Colonel Pole.
