Silent City tour Monday, October 27, 2008 at 5:00pmCT Silent City Tour is one of the truly great Adair Co. Annual Events. HIghly recommended for education, entertainment.-CM By Lee Ann Jesee, Director, AC Public Library The Adair County Public Library would like to invite everyone to the second "Silent City" Cemetery Walk to be held Monday, October 27, 2008. Please be at the library by 5:00pm to join the tour. The tour will start at the library and proceed to the Nathan Gaither House where you will be greeted by Nathan and Martha Gaither. The tour will then head to the Columbia City Cemetery, known as the "Silent City" by our forefathers. There you will meet James Milam a porter at the Hancock Hotel, (played by George Payne), Col. Frank Wolford a Civil War officer and a lawyer, (played by Mike Watson): Z.T. Williams, Columbia Christian Church minister and a businessman,(played by Richard Phelps): Georgia Reed Shelton the first woman superintendant of Adair County, (played by Wanda Beard); Oliver Patteson, Civil War soldier played by Gary Pike; and Robert Bennett a Mexican War soldier (played by Chris Bennett). The tour will end back at the library for refreshments and a time of fellowship. This is a great opportunity to meet some of the historica figures who helped to shape Adair County.
