Breaking News: KY 61 to be built in phases, starting now Formal announcement later today or Tuesday Adair County Beshear Administration Contact and former Adair County Judge Executive Richard L. Walker has been notified by Secretary of Transportation Joe Prather that KY 61 contracts are being awarded. A formal announcement and media press release is scheduled shortly, he said. "The Governor will either swing by Columbia to make the announcement," he said, "or he will make it at his Meet and Greet event at the Metcalfe County Courthouse in Edmonton on Tuesday, October 21, 2008, at 2:30pmCT. Walker said that the project will be let in phases instead of all at once, but that completion of the stretch from just South of the Louie B. Nunn Parkway to Sparksville will happen in 2009 or 2010. Walker said he was told that the complete project is now a sure thing. He said Secretary Prather told him that "When we start it, we'll complete it." Walker said that wherever the Governor makes the announcement, he is hoping a large contingent of Adair Countians will be on hand to thank Governor Beshear. Already committed to be at the announcement, he said, are Adair County Judge Executive Ann Melton and City of Columbia Mayor Pat Bell. He said that the Governor had interceded to get the project back on track after meeting with Billy Joe Fudge, candidate for 51st District Representative. "Governor Beshear was quite impressed with his (Fudge's) appeal," Judge Walker said. This story was posted on 2008-10-20 10:34:41
