Obituary: Mary Todd, 84, dies in Mt. Pleasant, SC

Mrs. Todd was a member of a highly regarded, old line Adair County family. She was deeply devoted to her family and to the work of the Baptist Churches where she taught Sunday school in each of her numerous residences. She lived in many locations, but will be returned to Adair County for funeral services and will be laid to rest in Cane Valley Cemetery.

Mary Todd, 84, Mt. Pleasant, SC, passed away Friday, October 10, 2008, at Hospice Center of Charleston in Mt. Pleasant, SC.

Funeral services will be be Tuesday, October 14, 2008, at 11:00amCT, at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home with Rev. William R. Davenport the officiating clergy.



She was the daughter of the late Dana and Louisa Richards Owens and was preceded in death by her husband, Sgt. Major US ARM, Ret. Charles L. Todd on May 14, 2008.

She is survived by the following:
  • Two sons: Ricky Todd and his wife Margaret of Hlllsborough, NJ; and Victor Hutcherson and his wife Myrtle of Madison, FL

  • Two daughters: Paula A. King and her husband Ronald, Summersville, SC; and Natalie Todd Petry and her husband Robert (Pete) of Sugarland, TX

  • Seven grandchildren: Myrna Lorrain Baete, Dana M. Todd, Rebecca K. Todd, Amy Elizabeth Fox, and Brian Hutcherson; 12 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two sons, Allen D. Todd, and Dr. Gerald Michael Todd; five brothers, Harlan, Ollie, Herb, Dan, and Guy Owens; and four sisters: Valeria McElroy, Stella Johns, Minnie Owens, and Flora Sargent.

She was born in Richmond, KY and attended Madison County schools. She married Charles L. Todd of Cane Valley, KY, on January 17, 1942. She lived in Fort Knox, KY; Campbellsville, KY; Angouleme, France; Mannheim, Germany, Ft. Benning, GA,; and Winter Park, FL.

She was a lifetime mother, wife, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

Mrs. Todd was employed at Union Underwear Company in Campbellsville in the 1960s. She co-managed Tara House Apartment Complex in Winter Park, FL, from 1971 to 2004.

She taught Sunday School for many years at South Campbellsville Baptist Church and an all other locations where she lives. She was always deeply devoted to her family.

Interment will be in Cane Valley Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy ay take the form of a donation to Hospice Center of Charleston, mailing adress 676 Wando Park Blvd., Mt. Pleasant, SC 29464, or may be left at the funeral Home.

Visitation will be Monday, October 13, 2008, from 6:00 to 8:00pmCT and Tuesday morning, October 14, 2008, at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home, 210 Greensburg ST, Columbia, KY.
