Obituary: Hortense Curlee, 74

Mrs. Powell was a member of a respected Adair County family. She was a member of Community Baptist Church, a cosmetologist, and a homemaker

Hortense Powell Curlee, 74, a resident of Summit Manor Health & Rehab in Columbia, KY, passed away Friday, October 3, 2008, 11:37am, at Westlake Regional Hospital after an illness.

The funeral service will be Sunday, October 5, 2008, at 1:30pmCT, at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home, with Bro. Troy Long the officiating clergy. Burial will be in the Absher Cemetery on Snake Creek Road.



She was the daughter of the late Charles Curtis and Effie Mae Knight Powell.

She is survived by the following:
  • One brother: Claude Powell, Louisville, KY

  • Sister in law: Kay Powell, Columbia, KY

  • Several nieces, nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by two sons, Clinton Greg Curlee in 1973; and Larry Wayne Curlee, in 1974; by one brother, Tommy Powell; and two sisters, Carrie Thomas and Nadine Kelly.

She was a member of Community Baptist Church in Salisbury, North Carolina, a cosmetologist, and a homemaker.

The family requests visitation after 9:00am Sunday, October 5, 2008, at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home, 210 Greensburg ST, Columbia, KY.
