ACHS finishes sixth. Glasgow High School wins meet. Green County High School comes in second. Lauren Goodin makes All Regional.

By Kim Goodin

The girls' golf team completed the season with a sixth place finish in the Regional Tournament at Russellville on Monday, September 29, 2009.

The team shot 373. Lauren Goodin shot 87, Ashley Goodin 88, Natalie Sneed 89, Dea Brandon 109 and Emilee Royse 118.

The course was extremely tough playing 5700 + yards. The greens were the fastest we had played on all year; plus, add in difficult pin placements and all those high scores were the result.

The winning score was a 77 shot by Owen Townsend of Russellville.

Green County High School is runner-up

The winning school was Glasgow with a 326 and runner-up was Green Co. with a 339.

This region is one of the toughest in the state, out of the last ten years at the State Tournament, they have produced 6 individual champions and 4 team champions. We may see the Champion come out of this region again.

Lauren makes All-Regional

I felt for Lauren, especially with her being a senior and not qualifying for the State Tournament. However, Lauren was voted to the All Region team by the 4th Region coaches which I think is a compliment considering it was our first year in this region.Other All Region Team members were Kelsey Burrell (Franklin Simpson), Laura Beth Harris (Glasgow), Kate Larimore (Green Co.), Kristen Wilkinson (Glasgow).

I feel fortunate to have had the opportunity to coach Lauren. She had a terrific senior season and we will miss her leadership and playing ability.

We have much to look forward to in the future. Several of our team members have improved tremendously and hopefully they will continue to get better and better. Girls' golf is back in Adair County and going strong.

Thanks to everyone who helped make our year a success! We appreciate all the great coverage for girls' golf!
