CJE Ann Melton asks for Tv coverage of meetings

Video of meetings will make them more public; actions even more transparent, CJE says.

Adair County Judge Ann Melton said today that Duo County Telecom will start providing television coverage of the Adair County Fiscal Court.

She expects the Tv coverage to start with the next regular meeting, scheduled for Tuesday, October 14, 2008.

"The reason I asked them to attend is that I want every action of county government to be open," she said. "Of course we want as many people to come to the meeting as possible. We want them to see how their tax dollars are spent." She added, "But if they can't come, we want to be able to get the news from as many sources as they could in any modern community."

Duo County started telecasts of City Council meetings in September in the cramped Council meeting room in City Hall. The Adair County Fiscal Court meets in the spacious Courthouse Annex basement.

Judge Melton said that if spacein the courthouse annex should be a problem--if the crowds attending County proceedings need more room--she will find a bigger venue. "Heck," she said, "I'd like to have a big enough audience attending our meetings to have to hold them in the high school gymnasium."
