Rick Wilson gives outstanding presentation

Rick Wilson, Adair County Coroner gave an outstanding presentation on "Helmets For Kids Program" and Adair County Medication Disposal Program.

Did you know that Kentucky leads the nation in ATV deaths? Last year (2007) there were 30 deaths in Kentucky resulting from the use of ATV's. There were 21 deaths in 2005 and 2006. Wilson said, "I never want Adair County to become part of those statistics. I do not want to investigate a death in our County and that is why I am promoting safety for ATV users."

Those in attendance learned that through the Helmets for Kids program, youth are taught the 14 rules of ATV safety information and sign an agreement to always wear a helmet when riding an ATV (4 wheeler) or motorcycle and they will not ride an ATV if they do not have a helmet.

Everyone encouraged to participate in Medication Disposal Program

"The goal of the Medication Disposal Program is to make sure medications are properly disposed of," said Wilson. He stated that the Coroners Office had 16 drug related deaths between 1994 to 2006 (13years) but in 2007 and up to July of this year, 7 drug or medication related deaths had already been investigated.

Everyone was encouraged to participate in the Medication Disposal Program to be offered on Friday, September 19 between 1:00 and 5:00 PM. On Jamestown St. On the lot between the new Tourism gazebo and the Bank of Columbia Branch.

A special "Thank You" to Rick Wilson for sharing his time and knowledge on presenting the educational information to Auxiliary members, Great job Rick!!
