Numbers won't be complete till Monday, but WRH fair was big

With 24 photos now in 2008 WRH Health Fair Album; more being added

The numbers won't be tallied until Monday, but the participation in the 2008 Westlake Regional Hospital Health Fair were huges this year. Whether a record number of participants were served this year is not yet known, but it appeared that could be the case.

The winner of the Color Tv given away at the Fair was Sandy Fry.

The Fair was underway before it was offically set to start--7:00am to noonCT, --and at 5:00am crowds had already started gathering as last minute touches were put on booths at the fair.

At 5:45amCT the queue for the last blood draw had already grown to over 20 people. The blood draw will continue through 10:00amCT this morning and long lines prevailed most of the morning.

A color television will be given away at the fair today.

Forty-one healthcare related booths are set up at the fair. They include:

We are offering over $300.00 in health screenings for only $12.00 and there will be many healthcare-related booths and much more. Blood drawing from 6:30 A.M. To 10:30 A.M. Blood will be drawn from your arm for more than 30 different analyses, which include a complete blood count (CBC) a chemistry profile with HDL Cholesterol and a Thyroid profile. Also available are three free Colo-rectal cancer screens. The PSA cancer screen is recommended for men over 50 or men who meet any of he following three criteria: (1) Family history of cancer of the prostate or (2) had a vasectomy, or (3) is a black American.

The PSA will be an additional cost of $8.00.

REMEMBER TO FAST, having only water to drink for 12 hours before your blood draw.

Due to the changes in federal law regarding a patient's right to privacy, we have had to make some changes in the way we distribute lab results. You may pick up you own results. We are not allowed to give you your spouse's or family member's results. Results not picked up at the health fair will be mailed directly to you.

At 5:45am, getting ready for big WRH Health Fair

FINAL PREPARATIONS for today's big 2008 Westlake Regional Hospital Health Fair were being made, and a line of over 20 people had already formed for the last blood draw for the $12 package of health tests. Above, former Adair County High School Principal and Coach George Critz, left, was volunteering to help his wife, Doris Critz, Director of the WRH Laboratory, set up the lab's both, and Robert Hamlett, of the WRH surgery department, was distributing maps with vendor locations. The health fair officially starts at 7:00am this morning, Saturday, September 13, 2008. Besides the 40 booths with many free health care items, a large screen Tv will be given away today, as well. Food is available at the Westlake Hospital Cafe and at Westlake Regional Hospital Auxiliary food tent on the grounds.

Health care self help education is a major component of the ACHD's service program. The Adair County Health Department is located in the James C. Salato Building on Westlake Drive, and is a next door neighbor to the hospital.

She is now works at as Human Resources Manager at Modine in Harrodsburg, KY. Her company plans to hire 300 workers. "If you know of any TIG welders," she said, "we really need them." Ninety of the 300 new workers will be in TIG (Tungsten Inert Gas) welding field, she said. Harrodsburg is within commuting distance of Columbia--at least it was before the gas crisis.

VonFumetti lives in Russell Springs and works for Lifelines, which has offices in 28 Kentucky counties, Adair County not included, but she works in Adair County at Westlake Regional Hospital. "I know a lot of wonderful Adair County people through nursing here," she said. Lifelines serves every surrounding county and once offered home health services here.
