Obituary: Willie Foster, 84, WWII veteran

Mr. Foster was the patriarch of a very large, prominent northeast Adair County family. He leaves 75 living descendants . He served in WWII, and was decorated with the Purple Heart and will be accorded military honors by VFW Post 6097. He was a farmer, and a highly respected member of the Bloomington Chapel church, where he was a deacon

Willie R. Foster, 84, 6751 Liberty Road, Columbia, KY, passed away Monday, September 8, 2008, at 7:30pmCT at the Norton Audubon Hospital in Louisville, KY.

The funeral service will be Thursday, September 11, 2008, at 2:00pm at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home with Bro. Lewis Burton, Bro. Ralph Foster, and Bro. Dennis Roberts officiating.


He was the son of the late Charlie Buford and Maude Ella Simpson Foster of Adair County, KY.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Aline Streeval Foster, Columbia, KY, and the following:
  • Four sons: Ralph Foster and wife Darlene, Danny Foster and wife Melinda, and Johnny Foster and wife Roslin, all of Columbia, KY; and Michael Foster of Campbellsville, KY

  • Four daughters: Corine Simpson and husband Clifton of Edinburgh, IN; Linda Roberts and husband Dennis and Jenetta Holmes and husband Gene, all of Columbia, KY; and Beverly Bryant and husband Larry, Seymour, IN

  • Twenty-seven grandchildren, 38 great grandchildren, and two great grandchildren

  • Four sisters: Versie Streeval, Columbia, KY; Jewell Harmon, Columbus, IN; and Lois Burton, Byrdstown, TN

  • Three half-sisters: Deannie Bryant, Edinburg, IN; Leoma Hadley, Indianapolis, IN; Martha Wheat, Edinburgh, IN

  • Two step sisters

  • And a host of other relatives and friends.
  • He was preceded in death by two children, Rose Mary Foster on January 2, 1965, and by Sidney Foster on April 25, 2004; by three grandchildren, Danny Foster, Jr; Lynn Simpson, and Chris Holmes, and was also preceded in death by two step brothers and two step sisters.

    Mr. Foster was a member of the Bloomington Chapel Brethren in Christ Church where he served as a deacon. He was a farmer and veteran of World War II and was decorated with the Purple Heart.

    The funeral service will be Thursday, September 11, 2008, at 2:00pm at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home with Bro. Lewis Burton, Bro. Ralph Foster, and Bro. Dennis Roberts officiating.

    Interment will be in Bearwallow Cemetery with military honors presented by Columbia VFW Post 6097.

    The family requests visiting after 3:00pmCT on Wednesday, September 10, 2008 at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home, 210 Greensburg ST, Columbia, KY.

    The family asks that expressions of sympathy, which may be left at the funeral home, take the form of a donation to the Bearwallow Cemetery Fund.Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home is in charge of funeral arrangements.
