AC native Andy McAllister LWC Director of Residence Life New director is 1999 ACHS graduate, 2004 LWC grad, who holds Masters in student affairs from Western Kentucky University. He's looking ahead to an expected 25% increase in residents in 2010, after football, marching band programs arrive By Duane Bonifer, LWC Director of Public Affairs Few people know Lindsey Wilson College's residence life program better than Andy McAllister. That's why the Adair County native was recently appointed the college's director of residence life. "Andy has performed well at every level of his professional life, and we expect him to continue building on his record," said Assistant Dean of Students Curt Lee. As director of residence life, McAllister is the point person for the college's residence life department. In addition to running the men's residence life program, McAllister supervises the college's residence life program, which includes a professional and student staff that numbers more than 30. He also oversees quotidian housing operations and helps enforce the college's residence-life policies, which affect more than 700 residential students and their guests."I like to help students learn and grow through our residence-life program," McAllister said. "It's my way to give back to Lindsey Wilson." A 2004 LWC graduate who also holds a master's degree in student affairs from Western Kentucky University, McAllister started in residence life as a student resident assistant. He then served as apartment manager, hall director and, for the last two years, men's area coordinator. "Part of what I want to do (in residence life) is to take the theories and concepts I learned in my graduate studies and apply them here to serve our students," he said.McAllister comes to his new position at a time of transition for Lindsey Wilson's residence-life program. With the arrival of football and marching band in fall 2010, the campus' residence-life population of about 715 is expected to expand by about 25 percent over the next two years. "It's an exciting time to be at Lindsey Wilson because there is so much change and growth going on right now," said McAllister, a 1999 Adair County High School graduate. Because he lived on campus while an LWC undergraduate, McAllister is a strong advocate for the residential experience. "You have an opportunity to connect to other individuals when you live in the residence halls," he said. "You become so well-integrated into campus life. ...
