Houseboat scene will soon be missing

2008-08-12 - Downtown Columbia, KY - Photo By Ed Waggener.
A FAIRLY FREQUENT STREET SCENE will soon be missing from Downtown Columbia, KY, when the Columbia Western Bypass opens in a few days or weeks. But Monday afternoon, August 11, 2008, downtown was treated to the excitement of a huge houseboat getting the full Columbia Police Department treatment as traffic was halted, the stop sign was removed from the island on the Jamestown Street side, and this mammoth houseboat was deftly pulled from Campbellsville Street to Jamestown Street, against the normal flow of traffic.

Columbia Western Bypass: Aug. 11, 2008 ground shot

2008-08-12 - Northern terminus, Columbia Western Bypass - Photo By Ed Waggener.
Blacktopping on the Columbia Western Bypass required traffic stops on KY 55 Monday morning, August 11, 2008. While light traffic on KY 55 is evident, occcasionally traffic was backed up as many as eight cars at the KY 551/Knifley Road intersection, especially when a hesitant was the lead car. The scene is looking north toward Columbia from the intersection of the CWB and KY 55 N/Campbellsville Road. For many, the scene on the left is new. The green grassland is the former Tommy Dowell farm, now owned by Mike Hatcher. The former Bybee home has been razed, a new, gracefully winding road has been built, and the Campbellsville Road side is in grass, which has is now deep green, thanks to wonderful late July and early August weather.
