Russell County get $2 million block grant for Bruss expansion Governor Beshear makes announcement today, Friday, July 25 By Cindy Lanham, Commonwealth News Center Gov. Steve Beshear and the Department for Local Government (DLG) have awarded Russell County a $2,000,000 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) to assist in the expansion of an existing manufacturing industry which will create 150 new jobs. The Russell County Industrial Development Authority will use the funds to purchase equipment for a capitalize lease to Bruss North America, Inc. for an expansion that will focus on producing components for Chrysler's new Phoenix V-6 World Engine. The company specializes in the manufacture of sealing systems for transmissions and engines and other related automotive parts. "This grant will help Russell County continue to build upon its successful relationship with Bruss North America while bringing a significant number of new jobs to the area," said Gov. Beshear. "I applaud the county and the Industrial Development Authority in their ability to attract and retain such a valuable employer." The German company's North American headquarters have been located in Russell County's industrial park since 2001 and currently employs 171 people. The new jobs created with this new line will be a combination of unskilled, semi-skilled, technical and managerial. Kentucky's U. S. Congressional leaders' continued support of the CDBG program has made the funding available nationally as well as within the commonwealth. The state's CDBG program is managed by DLG and funded through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). Approved grants are used to assist counties and cities in revitalizing neighborhoods, expanding affordable housing and economic opportunities, providing infrastructure and/or improving community facilities and services.
